More about Advanced Tourism

Bandarban:

Bandarban is a district in South-Eastern Bangladesh, and a part of the Chittagong Division and Chittagong Hill Tracts. Bandarban (meaning the dam of monkeys), or in Marma or Arakanese language as "Rwa-daw Mro" is also known as Arvumi or the Bohmong Circle (of the rest of the three hill districts Rangamati is the Chakma Circle and Khagrachari is the Mong Circle. Bandarban town is the home town of the Bohmong Chief (currently King, or Raja, Aung Shwe Prue Chowdhury who is the head of the Marma population. It also is the administrative headquarter of Bandarban district, which has turned into one of the most exotic tourist attractions in Bangladesh.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a trip to the country. Bandorbon is the site of the highest hills in Bangladesh. It’s also called the land of indigenous people. About 13 tribal groups are living in the different parts of Bandorbon, each with their own individual cultures. Tribes include Marma, Bawm, Mru/Murong, and Tongchonga. The Marma people are found beside the rivers Sangu and Matamuhuri while and Bawm & Murong’s live higher in the hills and valleys.

The rivers Sangu and Matamu- huri are the only rivers which have their source in our country’s hill tracts and end in the Bay of Bangal.

The most attractive tourist areas of Bandorbon are Keo- kradong, Tajingdong, and Neel Giri.

One cannot imagine the natural beauty of Neel Giri until he/she visits the area. At night you can see the bright twinkling stars in the sky free from the pollution of the cities with the shadow of fog over the Sangu River and the hills and valleys in the distance. You can also view a spectacular sunrise from the top of the hill while awakening to the sweet song of birds.

You can enjoy a peaceful walk around Neel Giri and visit Muro Para (the Village of the Murong tribe) to experience their wonderful life style and culture.

From Dhaka it is approximately an 8 hour bus ride to Bandorbon. From Chittagong it is closer to a 4 hour drive. Once in Bandorbon you will need to hire a 4WD transport to Neel Giri--a scenic 2 hour drive via Shoilopropat and Chimbuk Hill.

There are limited accommodations at Neel Giri which include either tents or beautiful cottages. Toilet and shower facilities are excellent. The evening meal is provided under the supervision of the Bangladesh Army. You can enjoy your meal at a common dining hall on the premises.
