Batighar, the name derived from the English word “Lighthouse”, is meant to show people correct direction. On the whole, the Batighar model aims to create sustainable provision for easy access to information and other relevant services by using ICT tools with a minimum investment of USD 1500 and an entrepreneur can earn USD 150 (approx.) per month. The model based on holistic approach and economical viability with precise understanding of livelihoods and local economic activities. Batighar is a physical setup established in a rural or semi urban place with a range of ICT equipment and offers both social and commercial services to ensure sustainability of the centres.

Goals of Batighar

Establishing a Knowledge based sustainable network of information centre to deliver social and commercial services at rural level in Bangladesh to empower the local communities; to ensure promotion and usage of various services of PBTL; create a platform for PBTL to be used for CSR activities in the future; collaborate to develop partnership with different stake holders and implement various activities and introduce new services at Batighar centers.

Objectives
Establish Batighar branded tele centres in 500 locations by 2011 and targeting to reach all Union Parishads by 2015.
Building awareness of the farmers and educate them to use Batighar for any agriculture (including poultry, fishery and livestock) related information and advice, quality inputs, avail advisory services on other related issues.
Develop contents on agriculture, MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), Education, Health, Environment, and Citizen Services etc., to be delivered to the public through Batighar.
Collaborate to develop partnership with different stake holders to mobilize resources to implement various activities and introduce new services at Batighar centres.
