Berhampore is a town in the West Bengal state of India. Berhampore is the sixth largest town in West Bengal (after Kolkata, Howrah, Asansol, Siliguri & Malda) and situated in central part of West Bengal. Berhampore is nominated for becoming the municipal corporation. In earlier days it was known as Brahmpur because many of the Brahmin families settled there. Berhampore is the administrative headquarters of the Murshidabad district. It is located about 200 km (124 mi) from Kolkata (earlier known as Calcutta), the stare capital.
