Parmadan is one of the nearby places from Kolkata. The place is spread over 68 sq.km forest, lies on the bank of River Ichhamati. There are more than 200 deer in the park at present and the best time to sight them is during feeding hours, at 9 am and 4 pm. In 1980 the jungle was coined as Parmadan. Later, in 1995, it was re-named as Bibhuti Bhushan Wildlife Sanctuary, after author Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay, but still it is referred as Parmadan by the local population.

Walk in the woods which apart from the deer and houses countless birds and a large number of Langurs, a visit to the nearby villages, a boat ride down river Ichhamati or making the 45-minute journey to Chuyatiya - the international border between India and Bangladesh, will be enough to enjoy a weekend trip.
