Chilapata Jungle Camp is a tourist lodge. It is at the edge of Chilapata Forest, near a small village known as Chakowakheti. The lodge has 9 well maintained rooms with attached bathrooms among them 7 are cottages and 2 are Bamboo huts. The camp serves all the Guests with great hospitality. Good and hygienic food is served. the camp is full of lots of different types of trees and plants, there is a big pond where guests can enjoy fishing, every morning starts with twittering of birds which is really mesmerizing and gives peace to our mind, there are also many types of butterflies. So, we can say that the Camp is a mini forest with rooms. During the paddy cultivation the view of Wild Elephants who comes to the paddy field at night to eat the paddy charms our eyes, we can also see Peacock in the morning of winter season, you can see elephants, peacocks and other wild animals like Deer, Bison and birds from the Camp. The morning view of the forest mists is outstanding. You can also enjoy the inner sights of Forest through Jungle Safari which increases your probability to see Animals (Elephant, Deer, Leopard, Rhinoceros, Bison, etc), Birds and Reptiles of different species. There is a historical place in forest known as "NAL RAJA GAR" which extracts the mind of tourists.
The Jungle Safari covers 35kms of distance. The route for safari is done within the Forest. The safari covers Nal Raja Gar, Mendabari Tower, Beechan Bari, Shikari Line, C.C Line etc. Gypsy is used for Safari, as Gypsy is petrol vehicle which reduces high air and noice pollution to not disturb and harm the inhabitants of forest. Cost for Safari is 1840.00 INR for six persons, this cost includes Vehicle Hiring fee, Guide fee and entry fee of Gypsy and tourist.There are 4 shifts for Safari during summer one at 5:30 am, 7:30 a.m, 1:30 p.m and another shift at 4:00 pm and in winter first shift of jungle safari done at 6:00 am then 8:00 a.m, 1:00 p.m and the last one at 3:30 p.m. The Safari remains closed for 3 months from 15th June to 15th Sep because of the Monsoon and the Breeding Season of Animals..
Chilapata is at the central of the Dooars. As it is the central part of Dooars you can visit many tourist spots from the Camp very easily. The places which can be viewed are Jaldapara, Jayanti, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Coochbehar Raj Bari, Phunthsilong (Bhutan), Rosikbill, South Khairbari (leopard rescue center), Kunjanagar Deer Park, Local Tribal Villages etc....
