The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world and declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1984. The name Sundarban can be literally translated as "beautiful forest" in the Bengali language (Shundor, "beautiful" and bon, "forest").
Sundarbans is the only abode of Royal Bengal Tigers. Have beautiful spotted deer, 6,000 Irrawaddy dolphin, 270 different species of birds, 400 species of fish, 35 species of reptiles, 42 species of mammals and supports 334 species of plants. This huge resource base largest ecosystem in the world is under threat due to Oil spills, Rampal power plant, Deer hunter, Tiger & Tree trader etc.
