There is a historical background of the establishment of Shamsunnesa women’s college. This institution was named after Musammat Shamsunnesa the novel women who was born at Guashpur of Moglabazar in South Surma in 1935. She passed primary education, after that received Islamic education. From childhood she was fond of religious as well as general education. She used to teach Islamic Culture to the children and women. Musammat Shamsunnesa was married with Mr Abdur Rahman, of Khadipur, Jalalpur , South Surma, Sylhet. Mr Abdur Rahman was familiar with educational, social and other humanitarian activities in his locality. For philanthropic activities and contributing in social welfare, people elected him as a UP member without any competition. In 1971 he and his wife helped the freedom fighters with a heavy risk. For that works they were rewarded after liberation.

After marriage Begum Rahman also spread education among the children and women in his husbands locality. Specially she was benevolent for helping helpless and poor people. Her youngest son Mr Wazed Hasan Shelim who is the renowned British Community figure,young and successful businessman , the chairman of pride of Asia, was encouraged by her benevolent activities and took steps to establish an educational institution in his village.

Mr Wazed Hasan Shelim established Shamsunnesa Women’s College to implement his mother’s desire. He donated an acre of land which got from inheritance and academic activities has started in a temporary campus at this very time. The academic activities will be started by completing multistory building on its own land very soon. In the 1st year founder has provided the facilities of free admission fee , full-free studentship , uniforms etc of his own. As a result the poor and helpless rural female students are benefited.
