Son Beel

Son Beel is one of the largest lakes in southern Assam in India. It is situated in the Karimganj district, and is the largest wetland in Assam state. The speciality of Son Beel is that during winter season it becomes fully farm land where Rice cultivation is done and after winter from March onward this piece of land gets slowly filled up with water and become a lake. The depth of this lake is very less so when there is too much of rain then the lake overflows and the excess water channels through the Kakra/Cachua river to the Kushira river and eventually flows into Bangladesh. Son Beel is also famous for its mixed characteristics i.e. both Lotic and Lentic ecosystem exists here. The Shingla river is flowing through the middle of Son Beel, therefore the fauna of this Beel are very rich, Although it can be a lake, but the water of this lake can be seen in the summer seasons only.rest of year you can find a clean land there. Therefore, The locality of this place has made there routine for the summer seasons and the winter as well, this is nothing but a simple change in profession due to the change in condition, which means, as its a lake full of water during the summer seasons people does fishing and which is the only source of money for the farmars of this place during this season. Similarly, as there is no water during the winter seasons in the lake, so people than starts cultivating rice, and this system is been continued from many years.this is the way of living style of the locality of this place.
