The coast line of Bangladesh is about 710km and coastal area is characterized by many tidal rivers, which can be utilized in development work for enhancement of economic growth of the country and creating employment opportunity of growing population of Bangladesh. In accordance with the decision of the 14th meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Shipping Ministry a committee was formed with the in-house experts of CPA and BIWTA for site selection and preliminary feasibility study on development of sea port at the Rabnabad Channel in the Patuakhali district in 2010.
