Bangladesh Energy & Power Research Council is GoB run council under Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources. The overall objective of the council is to provide support in building research based activities in collaboration with relevant stake-holders. The council aims to improve quality, widen access, and innovative solution of the problems in power and energy sector. The project having its office at the Bidyut Bhaban, 1 Abdul Goni Road, Ramna, Dhaka -1000.
Vision of EPRC:
Provide the intellectual leadership to seek innovative solutions for efficient, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable development of Bangladesh’s energy and power infrastructure.
Goal of EPRC:
1. Develop an international online clearinghouse to highlight research needs in the country’s energy and power sector and attract innovative solutions to meet such needs;
2. Strengthen and consolidate domestic research capabilities to address the national energy and power infrastructural needs;
3. Improve administrative and financial set up to support research;
4. Fund, coordinate and monitor research grants and scholarships;
5. Generate client-oriented and demand-driven appropriate technology; and
6. Publicize research outputs.
Role of EPRC:
BEPRC focuses on research & development in the energy and power sector through innovation, incubation and entrepreneurship (I2E). In a broad sense, the BEPRC works in the following areas:
1. Seek innovative solutions to meet the needs in the power and energy sector;
2. Provide incubation through funding and research space for entrepreneurs to try out new solutions;
3. Link entrepreneurs with investors – both domestic and foreign – to market their findings in Bangladesh and globally.
Responsibilities of EPRC:
1. Preparation & Implementation of short, medium & long term research plans on energy & power technologies.
2. Co-ordinate, monitor & evaluate research works.
3. Aware & motivate R&D on power & energy development, energy efficiency, energy conservation and savings.
4. Encourage and coordinate public and private research institutions in carrying out research in the field of Power & Energy.
5. Involve renowned national & international researchers & scientists in the research works of the council.
6. Advance & improve the existing technologies and innovate new technologies in the field of Power & Energy.
7. Reduction of generation cost from RE and cost of energy efficient products through innovation in science & technologies.
8. Arrangement of seminars, symposiums, workshops to disseminate the results of research activities & its publications.
9. Establishment of research & testing laboratories. Capacity building of researchers through necessary training and higher education.
10. Arrangement of required funds for R&D activities and to ensure the use of technologies.
11. Preparation of required rules & regulations for implementation of the Act.
12. Identify the problems and barriers to the development of the sectors and advise the Government to resolve such problems.
