BCSS Govt. College

Beelchalan Shahid Shamsuzzoha Govt. College was established in 1969 after the name of first martyr intellectual Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, the then professor and proctor of Rajshahi University. Earlier in 1965 the intelligentsia of this locality started dreaming to establish a college to facilitate the higher education for the students who are poor but meritorious and intelligent. Establishing a college was a difficult matter and it took long four years to manage the necessary funds and other necessary things, papers and documents for operating a college. On 18 February 1969, Dr. Shamsuzzoha was brutally killed by Pakistani army when he was trying to bring the students of Rajshahi University back to the campus from the Rajshahi-Natore Highway in order to save their lives for they were staging demonstration violating the section 144 imposed by the Government. His great sacrifice touched the heart of the students, political leaders as well as the general people of this locality which is why they took the decision to name the college after the name of Dr. Mohammad Shamsuzzoha without second thought.

This college is located in a beautiful place surrounded by natural beauty all around in the center of ChalanBeel at the headquarter of Gurudaspur Upazilla under Natore district. It started its academic activities on 01 July 1969 having affiliation from the Board of Secondary and Intermediate Education, Rajshahi. Just after the liberation war, in 1972 the college was affiliated by Rajshahi University for running the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce course. This college has been elevated to the level of University College being affiliated by National University for admitting students in Honors course in 2011-2012 academic session. At present, in Degree pass course, students are taking degree in four different areas, i, e, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Social Science, Bachelor of Business Studies and Bachelor of Science. And in Honors course, students are getting the opportunity of studying in the departments of Bengali, Sociology, Geography, Islamic History and Culture, Accounting,Management, Psychology and Zoology. This college is greatly owed to professor Md. Abdul Quddus, Honorable Member of Parliament and the Chairman of the Governing body for the modern look the college had over the last couple of years. It is for his untiring efforts this college has had the prestige of being a Government College.
