The State of West Bengal with a variety of forest types is very rich in terms of Wildlife. North Bengal flood plains harbor wild animals like Tiger , Common Leopard , Clouded Leopard , Elephant , Rhino , Himalayan Black Bear , Sloth Bear , Gaur , Sambar , Barking Deer , Spotted Deer , Hog Deer , Wild Boar , Rhesus Monkey , Common Languor , different types of small Cats and Civets ,Crocodile , Gharail , Jungle Fowls and a large number of terrestrial and water Birds.

Siliguri is second most populous city after Kolkata in West Bengal and is situated at the entrance of North Bengal. People travelling to Darjeeling hills, Sikkim, North East India, Bhutan and Eastern Nepal have to touch through Siliguri. It is well connected with all these along with Kolkata and New Delhi by Rail, Road and Air.

North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri has established to showcase the faunal diversity of the North Bengal flood plains to the local people and visitors to the region. The Safari Park has been planned keeping in view the standard and norms formulated by the Central Zoo Authority for its development and maintenance.

North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri is spread in an area of 297 hectares. The Park is developed in its natural habitat of Sal & its associated species .The Park shall be having 4 nos. large safaris i.e. Mixed Herbivore Safari (91 ha), Tiger Safari (20 ha). The visitors shall be taken to these safaris in specially designed vehicles.

The lesser cats, fresh water crocodile, gharial and representatives birds of North Bengal shall be displayed in appropriately designed large enclosures.

Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal laid the foundation stone of the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri on 17th July, 2014. Section of the Park with Mixed Herbivore Safari, Red Jungle Fowl enclosure and jungle Cat enclosure is ready for opening to the public. Hon’ble Chief Minister, West Bengal dedicated the North Bengal Wild Animals Park, Siliguri to the nation in January 2016.
