The 14th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) will be held in Dhaka from January 14 to 22, 2016. The general theme of the festival is Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society. The Festival has been organized on a regular basis by Rainbow Film Society, which has been dedicated to the promotion of a healthy cine culture in Bangladesh and in celebrating the global mainstream in film and its social relevance since 1977.
In the short span of twenty three years, DIFF has attained international recognition with thirteen festivals held in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. We are confident that like the earlier events the festival would succeed in creating awareness among all concerned about the need for making and viewing good films.
Necessary preparatory work in this regard is already underway. During the 14th DIFF, organizers expect to screen approximately 170 films, with participation from approximately 55 countries. The festival will have a competition section for Asian and Australian cinema and segment categories for: "Retrospective", "Cinema of the World "," Children's Film ","Women Filmmakers "," Short and Independent Films Section" , "Spiritual Films Section" and “Scandinavian Countries Films Session”.
During this year’s festival the festival committee is planning to invite around 25 to 30 women filmmakers, actors and personalities from all over the world to hold a conference on “2nd International Conference on Women Cinema”.
In order to educate future film activists the festival is going to organize the 6th Dhaka Cine Workshop from January 16 to 21, 2016. This is a parallel event designed to utilize the ambiance, resource and coming together of cine professionals as well as creative talents, old and new. The Workshop will be an intensive week-long activity with creative professionals from diverse fields of the film industry as speakers and moderators.
