HOLY CROSS GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL :

Holy Cross Girl's High School is a Roman Catholic Secondary School for girls founded in 1950 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross of Notre Dame, Indiana, United States, in Tejgaon in the City of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The school was founded as a kindergarten with two students, was converted to a primary school in 1952, and became a high school in 1953, which got a complete shape in 1955. Sister Augustine Marie was appointed its first headmistress.The school got recognition of the Dhaka Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the first batch of its students appeared at the SSC examinations in 1966. By that time, it had humanities and science sections.It opened commerce section in 1999. In 1997, the school was awarded the 'Best National School' prize by the government of Bangladesh. By 1999, it had c. 1000 students in the morning shift and c. 500 students in the day shift.

The school conducts its classes in morning and day shifts. Both primary and high school students attend classes in two shifts and an additional batch of high school students takes lessons in the day shift.At the moment the school has over 2500 students. There are four sections in every class, two in morning shift and other two in day shift.In every section there are 50 students.Although run by the Christian Church, the school is open for students of all religions and castes. In 1999, it had 1,000 students in the morning shift and 500 in the day shift. The number of teachers was 59, of which 7 were male.Now this school is one of the top schools in Bangladesh.

The school has a special 'Afternoon Literacy Program' for the poor and slum dwelling children. The school compound has a land area of 32,000 square feet. It has well-equipped laboratories, a library with 5,000 books, a hall room, and two playgrounds.

The school distinguished itself with excellent academic results of its students and the activities of Girl Guides, Girl Scouts and Yellow Birds. Its students take part in extra curriculum activities through recitation club, quiz club, debate club and art club. The school organizes science and social science fairs every alternative year. Students of the school also take part in competitions in television and radio, organize education week, publish an annual magazine, organize seminars, go to study tours and periodically conduct literacy campaign for garment factory workers in their places of work.

The headmistress of the school is Sister Rani Catherine Gomes and the assistant headmistress is Sister Pushpo Gomes.

Holy Cross is the premier intermediate-level (Higher Secondary) college for girls. Holy Cross graduates has consistently held the top rankings in the Dhaka Board HSC examinations.

The Principal of the college is Sister Shikha Gomes and the assistant principal is Sister Minoti Rozario.
