COMPLETION OF 50 YEARS:

Established on the 16th of August, 1959 the Kokrajhar Govt. College, then Kokrajhar College commemorated the 50th year “2008-2009” of its existence in the service of the society as the Golden Jubilee year with a series of year long programmes and activities recalling the long and arduous journey yet nonetheless adventurous, exciting and enlightening one in its glorious history of serving the backward and downtrodden people of this part of the country for as long as fifty years. The College has a rich tradition and unique achievements to its credit as it was the sole beacon of hope which gave the light of learning and knowledge.

In its 50 years of existence the College has played a vital and leading role in the socio-economic, political and cultural transformation of the people and the place itself as it was the alumni of this College who took the leading role in the forefront of the socio-economic, political and cultural struggle and fight for justice for the neglected and forgotten people of this land.

The College has as its motto “Discipline and Excellence”. Throughout its history it has sought to inculcate the ‘sense’ and the ‘spirit’ of this motto to the students. This has motivated and moulded many generations of students and many are today responsible members of the society. As in the life and history of any educational institution Kokrajhar Govt. College has also been through many testing times, has seen many ups and downs yet it has managed to survive with a renewed vigour.

Today, in retrospection, Kokrajhar Govt. College can boast of its success when it looks at the achievements of the alumni of the College. Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, fondly called ‘The Father of the Bodos’ is an illustrious alumni of this College. During the height of the Bodo renaissance in the 1980s the College was the nerve centre of intellectual, cultural and political activities of the Bodos led by the likes of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, Sri Sansuma Khunggur Bwisumuthiary, MP (Lok Sabha) and many other prominent leaders of the Bodos. Besides, thousands of other alumni of this institution are now serving in different capacities occupying high and responsible positions. Some of them are serving in foreign countries. Most of the leaders and politicians of Bodoland are the products of this institution. There are MPs, MLAs and social workers occupying very high positions and serving the society from those positions. It is heartening that these prominent alumni have not forgotten the College and they have been extending their help whenever the College authority approaches them for suggestion and guidance apart from the financial help.

Yet, the College is not resting on its laurels. There are numerous challenges ahead. The world is moving ahead with a frenetic pace in the 21st century and the College cannot afford to be complacent and caught napping. Therefore, the College is doing its best to keep up with the changing and challenging times by spread its wings with fire and zeal with all the resources that it has at its disposal. As Robert Frost said, “The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”

The College Motto:

The motto of the College is DISCIPLINE & EXCELLENCE. True to the motto, Kokrajhar Govt. College has made every effort since its inception, to turn the youths of this economically, socially and educationally backward area into leaders of their own society as politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, judges, lawyers, teachers, engineers, doctors etc. by inculcating in them a spirit and culture of discipline and excellence in their chosen field of activities.
