Machhli Baba, a retail and wholesale fish store in South Kolkata, West Bengal, India, showcasing various varieties of fresh water fish and sea food products from the rivers and Bay of Bengal, is a Bhojohori Manna venture. Bhojohori Manna(www.bhojohorimanna.com),as many people would know, is a restaurant chain specialising in regional Bengali homestyle cuisine.
The name Machhli Baba is taken from a very popular Satyajit Ray film JOI BABA FELUNATH in which Machhli Baba played an important cameo. Our partner Siddhartha Chatterjee also played the role of the popular Topshe in this film.These little things...Ray, Feluda, Topshe, Jatayu, Joi Baba Felunath, Machhli Baba and of course the concept of availability of fish from an exclusive store...are designed to create an emotional recall among fish lovers all over the world, just like Bhojohori Manna did from 2003 till now.
Machhli Baba starts on Thursday 10th March 2016 with 3 categories of products and the 4th will be launched in the 2nd half of 2016.
A) FRESH & CHILLED WHOLE FISH....this is similar to the conventional fish market except that buyers will get a clean air conditioned environment to shop or ask for home delivery.
B) FRESH & CHILLED CUT AND DRESSED...this is THE NEW CONCEPT meant to make buying fish quick and convenient specially for those buyers who are pressed for time and do not enjoy the sloshy congestion of the local fish market and the ensuing issues of quality,size standardisation and weight.
C) FROZEN WHOLE...this category can last for 6 months if kept in deep freezers and is useful for outstation buyers or those who look for exotic varieties of seafood products.
D) FROZEN CUT AND DRESSED ...this will be processed through the BLAST FREEZING and / or IQF method, vacuum packed and packaged to international standards in approved process plants...and will be very convenient for outstation buyers looking for fresh water fish and seafood products. We expect to launch this range in the second half of 2016.
