Mymensingh Medical College is a government medical college in Bangladesh. It is in the Mymensingh District of the Dhaka Division. Mymensingh Medical Journal, which is Index Medicus/MEDLINE listed, is the official journal of Mymensingh Medical College.

Lytton Medical School
During the later part of British India, it was felt that the people of the northeastern region needed the services of qualified medical personnel. The then Campbell Medical School of Calcutta and Mitford Medical School of Dhaka were unable to cater the needs of the growing population. With this background the third medical school for the region, was established in 1924 in Mymensingh, by the Earl of Lytton, the then governor of Bengal. The Lytton Medical School was to run a four-year course of Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF). This course of LMF continued till 1962, when it was upgraded to a five-year undergraduate medical course under Dhaka University and the school was renamed as Mymensingh Medical College.

Undergraduate: MBBS course
For Bangladeshi students: Admission test is conducted centrally by Director of Medical Education under DGHS. Admission consists of written MCQ. Well advertised in the daily newspapers.
For foreign students: Admission is through Embassy of Bangladesh in respective countries.
Academic calendar for different years is maintained by respective departments.
Post-graduate: MD, MS, M Phil, diploma courses
Admission test is conducted by Medical College. Admission consists of written MCQ exam. Well advertised in the daily newspapers of the country and online.
January session: MS, MD courses
Admission test: Last Friday of September

Mymensingh Medical College is a government medical college in Bangladesh which was established as an institution of national importance. It is located in the eastern part of the town beside Mymensingh Dhaka highway.



It started in 1924 in Baghmara as “Lytton Medical School”, according to the name of the then Governor of Bengal Mr. Lytton. The medical school had conducted Licentiate of Medical Faculty (LMF) till 1962. Mymensingh Medical College was named in 1962 that started conducting MBBS course with 32 students as the 1st batch (M 01). Mymensingh Medical Journal is the official journal of Mymensingh Medical College which is an Index Medicus / MEDLINE enlisted journal.



The campus shifted to Charpara in 1972 on a total of 84 acres land. A four storied College building with 18,000 sq. m. floor space. The Hospital building is adjacent to the college building. The hospital is spread over an area of 58 acres of land (additional 5.7 acres for S. K. hospital).



The total floor space in the hospital is 50300 square meters with capacity of 910 beds. Preclinical & Para-clinical disciplines are in College building and clinical disciplines are in Hospital building. Gallery I, II & III, Tutorial rooms, Dissection Hall, Practical classroom, Laboratories, Museums, Medical Education Unit. Medical Skill Centre, Autopsy Morgue, Seminar' Rooms, Library (Air conditioned), Computer Lab are In the college building.

Centre for Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound, Model Family Planning Clinic, Medical central mosque, Agrani Bank, Female student’s hostel, Internee hostels, Nurses training institute, residential building for teachers and staffs, auditorium, Morgue 2 are all in the charpara campus. Residential buildings for (MLSS) staff at Mashkanda. infectious disease section is located about half a kilometer away from college premises in SK hospital. The male student hostels are located about half a kilometer away in the old Lytton medical school campus.



In addition to MBBS course there are also Postgraduate courses such as MD; MS, Diploma & MPH courses. Gross eligibility for candidature: Bangladeshi national passed HSC examination within immediate two passed session with total GPA 7.0 (SSC+HSC) with Biology in HSC. Written examinations are MCQ type on the basis of HSC syllabus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and General Knowledge. Answer scripts are examined centrally by OMR machine and final selection are given by DGHS as per merit and quota.



All the post-graduate courses are approved by The Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine and Research, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. After Completion of 2 years after Graduation (MBBS), Two years of service for government candidate, Govt. candidate who completed another postgraduate degree al least before2 years, Non-government candidate after 1 year of completing internship, One year training on the respective subject for Diploma degree. Admission Test conducted at least 2 months before commencing the session, MCQ true false completion type on the basic concepts of overall medical science, Answer sheets are examined by OMR machine, Selection is given as per merit and quota (Government 50% Non- Government 50%).
