North Kamrup College Baghmara

North Kamrup College is a constituent college of the University of Gauhati. It is one of the Premier Institution of higher education located in the Indian State of rural Assam and offers undergraduate courses in Arts stream.

North Kamrup College, Baghmara was established on the 17th of August of 1979 and is situated under the traditionally enlightened district of Assam, Barpeta. It is 13km towards north from Pathsala, the head quarter of Bajali sub-division. The 152 no. International Highway from Bhutan to Pathsala is running through Baghmara.

Baghmara where the college is located is a place known for trade & business. Historically, Baghmara Bazar was famous for exchange of various goods between the Assamese and the Bhutanese. The landscape surrounding the institution is science and the college covers 33 bighas of land. People residing in the locality are having diverse ethnic identity and colourful cultural heritage.

The people of the greater Baghmara felt the need for a higher educational Institution and the first step in this regard was to establish a college in Arts Stream. The general public of the locality with their humble monetary contribution, holistic approach and cordial efforts came forward for this noble cause.

The college started and grown in a remote rural underdeveloped area like Baghmara with mass participation and everyone’s contribution of the locality against many odds. Based on the performance, the college achieved the Deficit Grant in Aid on Feb 1, 1986.
