Shilbarihat High School - H.S

Shilbarihat High School (HS), founded on the 25th of January in 1952 in a vested land, almost encircled by the river Shil Torsha and Char Torsha, then flowing in full swing at Shilbarihat (Palashbari) nearly 12 km from Falakalat in the district of Jalpaiguri beside the N.H-31C. The rivers surrounding the area were then so violent in form that even the bridges over these rivers were also washed away by the flooded water. The school started its journey with only a few students in mainly a hut made of straw and bamboo by the self less whole-hearted contribution of a number of benevolent people of Shilbarihat and neighboring locality which was, later on greatly helped by many sources among which the contribution of a “ Jatra Dal” constituted by a group of local youths deserve special attention. Initially no construction was possible chiefly because of lack of funds and secondly the rivers used to engulf everything during the rains in a routine. The school, a three-storied well equipped building, is now a leading school in the area as well as in the district. As conceived by the then founder members, this temple of learning has been able to justify to a great extent its existence as a centre for promoting, extending and disseminating education among the pupils. In the year 1998, the school has celebrated its “Golden Jubilee”. The four-day long(23rd January to 26th January) “Siksha Sammelan” is the most coveted programme every year for which all concerned i.e the students, teachers, the guardian and the well wishers wait impatiently to have a chance to cultivate their talents in extra-curricular activities such as recitation, quiz, debate, extempore, song, drama, exhibition drawing etc. The programme is noted to be a successful one for the all round development of the learners. Apart from promoting education, the pupils of this institution has ensured a remarkable status in various branches of knowledge under the friendly guidance of the veteran teachers.
