University Laboratory School & College

Beyond doubt the position of University Laboratory School and College is in the front line among the very few institutions across the country illuminating their brilliance in the field of education. The institution has a great contribution to the education sector during the Pre-liberation as well as the Post-liberation period of Bangladesh. It is unique in many respects and outshines most other institutions. But the true story of the institution is probably unknown to many because of its exceptional inception.



From crawling to walking, from walking to running University Laboratory School and College is in its present form. It germinated in the western block of the IER in a beautiful backdrop of Dhaka University campus on 15 April, 1964. Initially there were only two classes-Kg and class One. Over the time it is now a full-grown tree with flowers and foliage, shade and shelter.



To impart better training in the field of education an agreement was signed between the erstwhile Pakistan and Colorado State University of America on establishing the Institute of Education and Research, namely, the IER for Dhaka University and as part of the institute, University Laboratory School was established as a Laboratory for the students of the IER. Mrs. Gunning, an American lady teacher, was the first teacher of the school. In 1965 the school was uplifted to class V and turned to a primary school. Then Dr Edgar-E-Fielder, an American consultant and supervisor, was appointed in the overall management of the school. And he is regarded as the pioneer principal of University Laboratory School and College. Dr Adgar-E-Fielder was always cordially assisted by three dedicated souls-Mrs. Gunning, Dr Jackfron and Dr Ottis Coffey. Gradually the school turned to a high school and the first SSC batch (Matriculation) appeared in 1971, securing one merit position in the board. The college section in 1975 added a new dimension to the institution. The institution was renamed University Laboratory School and College. It opened with Science group only and later on in 1998 Commerce and Humanities groups were added.



The results of the institution have always excelled in different public examinations. Along with their academic performance the students have equally excelled in the co. and extra curricular activities. They deserve recognition and appreciation for the outstanding achievements at different national level competitions of sports, music, art, debate, science fair and so on.



University Laboratory School and College has created innumerable talented personalities who are contributing to the socio-economic, socio-political and socio-cultural spheres of the country. There is hardly any country in the world where the students of University Laboratory school and College will not be found. The institution prided itself teaching four sons of four presidents of Bangladesh.



University Laboratory School & College has seen many ups and downs in its journey to success. It had an enviable golden past as well as has a beckoning bright future. In the middle it has got some shakes and jerks. It is now again in its prefect rhythm towards success and achievement. And it is because of the selfless love and combined effort of a group of young, energetic, motivated and experienced academic staff guided by the Principal Md. Habibur Rahman along with two active Vice Principals, Mrs. Selina Banu and Mrs. Feroza Akhter, under the direct supervision of I.E.R, Dhaka University.
